Traditional Shaolin 18 Luohan Qigong

Shaolin Authentic Tradition: 18 Luohan Qigong Volume 1The fact that we have been slow (an understatement) in presenting our newest books in no way reflects how excited we are by their arrivals at Plum.

The first books come from the tradition of the late Master Lee Kam Wing, best known for his teachings of Seven Star Mantis. Master Lee’s teacher, Chiu Chi Man handed down to him the manuscript of the traditional Shaolin 18 Luohan Qigong, whose transcirption he had received from his own teacher, Lo Kang Yu. It is both an elegant and powerful Qigong.

Master Lee made the text, along with the original manuscript available to his indoor student Brian Bateman who, along with David Winter translated it. In Volume 1, Master Lee’s demonstration of the complete form is accompanied by step-by-step instruction, in both English and Chinese.

Volume 2 is the actual manuscript, accompanied by detailed notes for incorporating the set into practice. These are the valuable snd advanced insights that help the practitioner perform the set correctly, not just to ‘get the moves right,’ but to understand the usage of the form.

Sifu Bateman took over 10 years to do this translation; he told us that it was important to him not just to translate the traditional, but to go a step further and translate the classical. Master Lee specifically asked him to translate the work, and approved the draft before his death in 2024. From what we have seen of translations, this shows great insight into the process itself, and we look forward to more translation from Sifu Batemen.
