There is nothing like starting off a new year with two great books and, without too much exaggeration, I would say that these two qualify.
The one on the left is Mantis Interlocking Treasure Routine, a manuscript by legendary Praying Mantis practitioner Wong Han Fun, as he neared the end of his life. In that year, he compiled a batch of advanced routines that were rarely taught. This set is one of them. The photos are clean and bright, full-paged, opposite text instruction for the move.
The one on the right, An Interpretation of Ch’i Chi-kuang’s Martial Arts Doctrine (Ch’un-Ching ) With the School of Praying Mantis Boxing, is written by Wong Hon Chiu (Wang HanChao), whom you might remember from his two, sadly-out-of-print books, “A Discourse on the History
of the Praying Mantis Boxing for the Last One Hundred Years,” and “The True Biography of Mantis Boxing.” In this one, he continues his research into Mantis’s history discovering, among other things, links to and influences from Ch’i Chi-kuang’s Martial Arts Doctrine.
