WEAPONS: COLLECTIONS AND RESEARCH

The Xing Yi of the Chinese Army (Vol. 2)

Taking Huang Po Nien's famous "Xing Yi and Weapon Instruction" as its basis, this book shows bayonet techniques and strategies for weapon's work from the first teacher to apply ancient techniques to modern weapons...

Wing Chun Weapons
The two main weapons of Wing Chun Pai: the staff and the butterfly knives, are demonstrated with applications.

Ancient Chinese Hidden Weapons
A survey of ancient weapons from war machines to personal hidden instruments.

ChinWoo Weapons
In this slim volume we have the ChinWoo versions of three weapons: Bagua Dao (Eight Direction Saber), and HuPu ChunYang gun ( Pure Yang Staff) and Wu Hu Qiang (Five Tiger Spear).

Dragon Staff vs. Butterfly Knives
A Southern-style set, created by Tak Wah Eng, that combines the Staff and the Butterfly knives. Each side is shown separately then the duet is shown.

OTHER SHORT WEAPONS

Dragon Fan of Choy Lay Fut

Included is the CLF Fundamental Fist Set. This is followed by the Dragon Fan, a short and easily learned set.

T'ai Chi Mantis Killing Fan
Not a fancy or balletic version but an authentic mantis form with conservatives moves mostly relating to self defense.

Hung Gar Pugilism Self Defense
The front section demonstrates self defence using: empty hands, bench, umbrella, Chinese Iron Fan and walking stick.

Dragon Tiger Double Broadsword Style
This pair of weapons are mismatched, with the White Tiger left handed weapon more closely resembling a sai and therefore technically called a “rod.” The other weapon, the right handed Green Dragon Sword, is more similar to a short version of the Chinese straight sword.

Tai Chi Dragon Fan by Bow Sim Mark
Unlike many, Sifu Bow's set incorporates strong stances and martially logical motions.

OTHER LONG WEAPONS

Kwan-Dao
A longish set with the weapon. And then Kwan vs. Kung Fu bench. Also a free poster of General Kwan for you guan (studio) altar.

Kwan-Dao Play
Demonstrates a Southern style Kwan Solo set. But that's not all. There's a partner set with Kwan Dao against Staff, another with Kwan vs. Double Sabers, and yet another with Kwan Dao against Three-Sectional Staff.

Rope Dart: The Kung Fu Weapon
The dart is a weapon like a yo-yo (which itself was inspired by such a weapon). Its heavy metal body is attached to a long rope. The rope is wrapped around the body in a number of ways and then released causing sudden skips and jolts with the weapon as it speeds away from the body.

Soft Kung Fu Weapons: Rope Dart &Steel Whip
One of the very rare texts on the use and practice of soft weapons such as the Steel Whip and the Rope Dart.

SPEAR

Spinning Spear of Choy Lay Fut

A nice Color presentation of a Choy Lai Fut set. Good solid movements with very clear actions typical of the style.

SWORD

Chinese Swordsmanship
This oversized book contains a lot of photographs and historical notes on the jian (Chinese sword), Way of the Sword, basic cuts, Forms and Martial applications. He presents what he calls the "public" Yang style sword and another version from the branch he has studied called Mi Chuan or Secret Teachings.

The Art of Chinese Swordsmanship: A manual of Taiji Jian
Definitely a text for those interested in this classic weapon. A cut above most other books on the subject.
The author, Zhang Yun, is a student of the famed Wu Style T'ai Chi teacher Wang PeiSheng.

Intelligent Swordplay of the Lama Style Kung Fu
This set is from the LaMa of the Tibetan White Crane style and shows the movements annotated by both Chinese and English.

Classical T'ai Chi Sword
One of Tuttle's better new books. An intelligently written and informative book. While not exhaustive it gives good solid information and some new insights.

T'ai Chi 13 Sword by Stuart Olson
Olson's version of the Yang style Tai Chi Sword.

T'ai Chi "13 Method" Sword
A straight forward en face instruction on the Yang style Tai Chi Sword.

BaGua Turning Sword
This is a combination of two versions of the same Ba Gua sword set.

SABER

Tornado Broadsword Form

This is a Double Saber form from the Wah Lum school of Northern Kung Fu.

Yan Qing Dao (Saber)
This is a Northern branch Praying Mantis version of the Yan Qing Saber.

BaGua Saber
A clear and well illustrated explanation of the BaGua broadsword. Step by step instruction highlighted with very clear figures; not to mention a neat set.

STAFF and STICKS

Choy Lai Fut Waddy Play
This "monk's traveling stick" set emphasizes short strikes and feints.

Whirling Staff of Choy Lay Fut
CLF has a number of excellent staff sets. This one is relatively short and learnable. It is also known as the Dragon Staff.
