First, be advised that all of these VCD's are IN CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow!

PiGua Boxing (Split Deflect Fist) Page Two

Demonstrator/Teacher:Guo Rui-Xiang, this is the same generation holder as in our first Pigua page. We found his treatment of the material strong then with an emphasis on key points and practical motion. Whatever illness he was fighting then seems to be conquered and his vocal presentation is stronger now. A knowledgeable teacher.

This style, known throughout China, is one of the great fists. Not only is it loose, fluid, beautiful and effective but the relaxed movements are excellent for health. PiGua style blends extreme flexibility of the shoulder with Long Fist motions and a relaxed method of Fa Chin (energy issuing). Often taught hand in hand with BaJi these two compliment each other beautifully. But then again PiGua (which transformed into Monkey Fist through the centuries) has been known to "marry" many other style PiGua (Split-Deflect) style is one of the treasures of Northern Kung Fu. Very famous in China it is sparsely represented in the Western world. PiGua training emphasizes loose movements taking the eagle and the snake as its totem animals. The style has a distinct flavor, relaxed and fluid, which is beautifully represented in this staff set with wide whipping swipes and thunderous slams.

Pigua and Bagua share one significant attribute. They each use "movement as a base." This Green Dragon form is no exception. In the framework of a constantly changing and moving form, the practitioner demonstrates a truly "Long Fist" style of action. The form is shown a number of times and teacher Guo shows key points and applications on the form¹s interpretation. The movements of the form include a number of running and circling footwork actions and many long arm whipping movements.

VCD#1405 Quick Set

A fast, fairly complex Pigua form with some interesting moves. Broken into thirds. What's nice is that sections of the form are shown as separate practices patterns. This VCD also has a very long lecture section on much historical information. A nice representative set.

VCD#1406 Two Person Baji

This VCD starts with a lecture on Baji history and theory. Teacher Guo then shows some sections with a student. Next two advanced students perform the set at speed and with power. The set is essentially shown by slowmo repetitions of the filmed sequence a difficult way to learn. On the other hand the comments, even if you have little Chinese, is invaluable.

VCD#1407 Tong Bi 24 Strikes

Again, this VCD starts with extensive lecture and key points o the art of Tong Bei, in this case. This is followed by demonstration and instruction showing key actions. The interchange between the teacher and students is well done, the breakdowns really acting as excuses to show the movements. Many distinct exercises are given emphasizing loose power.

VCD#1408 Green Duckweed Sword

Not only is this rather nice version of the set shown but there is a longish lecture on the sword and history with a nice showing of basic strikes. Don't expect teacher Guo who is in his seventies to write fast on his white board. As in other cases of this series the breakdown is essentially just a repetition of the form demonstrated with few breakdowns.
VCD#1409 Tassel Sword

TiPao Sword. Some times martial practitioners not only demonstrate with a sword and tassel but actually emphasize the tassel to elicit the energy and negative movements of the sword. This is a perfect example. The VCD starts, as do all in the series, with a lengthy lecture on principles. The set is shown as a continuous performance. There are a number of unusual postures in this rather nice and fairly complex set many of them based on the requirements of being a "tassel" sword form. .

VCD#1410 Survey

Essentially this is a demonstration of the other forms on this page. As always we feel that if you are not familiar with this teacher, style or either a survey for only a few dollars might be the best way to go not only as a sampler but as a historic resource.
