EAGLE Boxing
Eagle Boxing takes a number of forms. Below we have the "Shaolin Eagle Sect". Even more famous is the Ying Jiao of "Eagle Claw" style often claimed to have derived from the Chinese folk hero Yue Fei. Other forms of Eagle Boxing, traditional and contemporary, may exist in some styles in only one or two forms but these might be quite interesting and often beautiful. The typical and obvious aspects of these styles are relatively consistent. There is an emphasis on Chin Nah, claw techniques, wing like motions and, classically, peripheral vision.

The newer Eagle forms have so many poses that scream out, "Hey, look. Just in case you're not convinced I'm spreading my wings!". The difficulty arises not in an occasional pose but the percentage of the form that is poses. This is a strong man performing what is, in the main, a powerful rendition. Some might say that it is basically traditional with contemporary flavor- we see more and more of that each week. Others might say that it is classical to have imitative moves in animal imitation boxing. The pont is that it's not all fluff and gives you some idea of the requirements. |

Fist EAGLE CLAW

Eagle
Claw has wide sweeping moves and some powerful and difficult kicks
such as the Butterfly and strong Tornados. This is similar to classical
Ying Jow Eagle Claw styles with true Long Arm motions but it is
obviously from a different school. Surprisingly firm motions such
as triple punching with claws. Little Chin Nah movement noticeable.
Less graceful than, say Lily Lau's style, but traditional Northern
Fist nonetheless. Yang
Jie demonstrates. |
Shaolin
EAGLE Sect
Created
by Shaolin Monk, Shi De Yan, the Eagle Sect (Ying Pai) . This is
a branch of traditional Shaolin Kung fu based on numeric formulas
such as: three frames, four momentums, five postures, the six harmonies
(Liu He), 7 poems, 8 methods (BaFa), 9 skills, 13 shapes, 18 strikes,
24 special positions, 36 hands and 72 techniques. Secret weapons
were used in Eagle Sect. It also has medicinal gong to balance,
cure external forms & internal strength. Instructor:
YANG WEI.

Joint Control Methods
Double VCD ,

This part of the series uses Chin Na as the counter attack. The movements here are actually pretty good because the Chin Nah is exceptionally direct and practical. Many movements focusing on the larger joints which are less common such as neck and hip locks. Strong movements, not every one of which we would endorse but many good ideas here. A double VCD. |

The series deals with the act of penetrating an opponent's defenses. The basic action of this series is to start with an attack that develops into another form of attack. Often this is accomplished through an action starting with a long motion and then suddenly collapsing to a short, wicked movement. A double VCD. |

VCD#1248 The Technique of Luring
Double VCD,
See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY
Every method in this series is based on luring the opponent's response and then countering. This basic strategy is demonstrated in a number of ways mostly with just a few counts. Utilizing the time tested techniques "drawing" Yang Wei sometimes even launches an attack which calls for an obvious and direct counter which he, in turn, counters. The old saying here is to "set a trap for a wolf by giving it a bone, then springing the trap." A double VCD. |
