CHUO
JIAO (Penetrating
Foot) BOXING page
2
Demonstrator:
AN JI YONG is a 6th generation inheritor of Chuo Jiao.Somewhat
resembling Xing Yi in its directness; something like Northern
Shaolin for its kicking skills: Chuo Jiao (Penetrating Kick) is
one of the oldest recorded styles of Kung Fu still in existence.
Chuo Jiao has been around along time and "married" with
many styles such as Fan Tzi or Tumbling Boxing where it has also
developed a distinctly gymnastic flair. You will note that that
forms presented here are different from those on our first
page. Chuo Jiao has a wide repertoire and these sets
fill out the picture a bit more.

VCD#1225 Eight
Separate Fists
A
Double VCD, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Ba
Fen (Eight Parts) is a kind of a pun on the other style connected
to Chuo Jiao known as Ba Fan or Ba Shan Fan. For a style known as
"Penetrating Foot" this is a relatively hand-oriented set. Structured
somewhat like a Shaolin Long Art form it shows many Long Fist movements
like Pi Gua coupled with some nice kicks and of course the characteristic
Chuo Jiao Back Flip kick. Applications of many of the movements
are shown in the instructional sections. A
Double VCD. |
VCD#1226 Jin
Gang Boxing
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
is a longish form with Chuo Jiao influcence on the Jin Gang theme.
Like most Jin Gang forms it contains some of the following: symmetrical
movements like Chi Kung, Fist actions, powerful movements, low cross
stances. In addition of course there are some of the fancy kicks
such as Tornados and high crescents common to Chuo Jiao's specialities.

Road Legs

Technically
Chuo Jiao is a very old style mentioned throughout Chinese history.
In reality it has been "reconstructed" a number of times introducing
other influences such as Shaolin (Jin Gang) and Yue Family (Liu
He). If you wanted to learn a distinctive Chuo Jiao set, though,
you might pick something worse than this back and forth "line" or
"road" set which is, essentially, a compendium of Chuo Jiao kicking
exercises with some circular hand patterns thrown in. This is the
kind of linked movement set which, at one time, all forms looked
like. Not so much an artistic composition as separate series bound
together for the purpose of practice. If you are interested in learning
the style, start here. |
VCD#1228 Six
Harmony Spear
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
A
good solid spear set with special emphasis on back poking at short
range, side stepping, and some more advanced twirls while performing
turning steps. The actions of most weapons have little to do with
any specific style but another aspect of Chuo Jiao besides kicking
is its footwork and some of this shows through this spear set named,
as many are, in the famous Six Harmony vein. |
VCD#1229 Eight
Trigram Saber
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Don't
be confused by the title of this set. The Ba Gua (Eight Trigrams)
are standard elements in Chinese culture and long before there was
a style named BaGua there were sets called BaGua this and BaGua
that. Choy Lai Fut, for instance has a BaGua stick set. In this
case this Chuo Jiao form is a nicely constructed set with solid
actions and basics. Not, as one might assume, an excess of kicks.
Fluid motions and traditional actions. |
VCD#1230 Applications
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Chuo
Jiao prides itself on having a strong base of applications. It also
has some specific strategies. This form starts with a little two
man set, kind of nice and simple and very symmetrical. It proceeds
to teach said set, then goes into general breakdowns on Chuo Jiao
applications of angles and counters. Surprisingly few examples of
kicking applications though. |
