This is the Master set of this branch of Tong Bei. It contains nine sections which together total 108 movements. Each section could be a self-contained Tong Bei form. The movements here are generally much larger than those of the other sets in this sect. Demonstrated by ShihFu Xu and her pupils. Taught by Shih Fu Xu. This is four VCDs |
This is a primary Tong Bei form with fast hands and fast legs. It uses the major movements of fighting Tong Bei such as "pull east, strike west", thrusting fist, elbow folding and other high speed and snappy movements. About intermediate level. Double VCDs. |
This is one of the key sets to the Hong Dong version of Tong Bei. The movements are fast and strong. Shih Fu Xu demonstrates and teaches the form. The implication is that the turning arm is like a rod. This "seed" form has a cascade of the major elements of the style with hand combinations utilizing such key actions as An (press) and Lan (barricade). |

This set has much staff "throwing." Very fast and showy set with many wide whipping moves. Demonstrated by a male, one of Madame Xu's students but taught by Xu Tian Xiang herself. To our eyes a bit of contemporary WuShu posing but still a fast and furious set. Double VCDs. |

A rather fast and flashy sword set smacking of the contemporary touch. We somewhat doubt that heritage of the set though there are many nice touches and fast sections with cloud stepping, multiple pokes and turning drops. Looks best on someone young. Instruction by ShihFu Xu herself.. |

Shih Fu Xu herself demonstrates and instructs this Tiger Hook Sword set. As always the hooks are an advanced task in coordination of both hands. This set has most of the classical movements including the "linked swords" and "flowers." |
By "Whip" we mean a short stick approximately from the heart to the ground. This is also a relatively short set with much use of the flicking motions. The stick is held about twenty per cent up and the counter balance of the whip is the exposed butt end which aids in the speed of the retraction. Light movements, fast actions but, overall, about an intermediate level. This and the next three VCDs are all instructed by Chen Zhen Hong. |
This is the single person version of the following set, #1036. Not uncommonly, the single set is complete in itself and can be practiced as such. This is a relatively short set with an occasional ground scissors kick, elbow turns and other actions familiar to aficionados of two person sets. With the following VCD quite learnable. Actually this VCD contains TWO sets. In addition to the partner version of the 10 Linked Legs it shows Grasping the Dragon at Sea Bottom. The first half is the two person breakdown of the previous VCD #1035. The explanation is explicit and shows the choreographed partner version of the set. The next set is short but pretty dynamic. There is a distinctive mixture of short snappy strikes and fast footwork. In this sense this all resembles Chi Family Tong Bei more than any other represented in this group. Chen Zhen Hong. |
This disk gives you twice as much for your money. It contains a short Tong Bei Saber set. This weapon appears more traditional than some of the others in this series. The practitioner knows what to do with his left hand, a requirement of saber. The spear, on the other hand, is more than intermediate and is actually a pretty nice little set with probably more spear kicking than we've every seen in one form. The rolls and turns of this set, such as the back turning roll, make it interchangeable with a staff form. Chen Zhen Hong. |
