First,
be advised that all of these VCD's are IN
CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much
because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography
very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't
read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given
that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these
special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made
for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for
free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most
DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow! |
KUN
LUN Boxing
Kun Lun Boxing is associated with the Kun Lun mountain range. Kun
Lun is near the Himalayas one of the mountain ranges in a land of
mountains that include the Tian Shan (Heaven Mountain) area. Kun
Lun, like Wu Dang, has a mystical air to it. The martial arts from
this area are traditional, old and have a distinctive flavor: loose
but powerful. Certain key associations of the Kun Lun styles are
the famous Kun Lun needles, a weapon supposedly developed for swimmers
during navel battles, and the even more famous Wild Goose Chi Kung
memorializing the wild geese sighted around the Kun Lun peaks.
Demonstrator:
Huang Shuang Qing, 67th generation inheritor.

VCD#1051
Kun
Lun Twin Dragon Fist
About
1 Hour ,VCD pricing, Chinese Only
A
complex set with a very interesting "flavor." This is
not a set for the total beginner. There are Tornado kicks, a Broom,
jumps crescents and some "traveling" footwork. This set
is very distinct with pauses, Cloud walking, some almost casual
but very flowing movements and a certain elegance of performance.
A few applications are shown in the last sections.

Kun
Lun
BaGua 7 Star Sword
About
1 Hour,VCD pricing, Chinese Only
How
many Kun Lun sword sets have you seen? This is a traditional, medium
length set with much emphasis on walking and carrying which seems
to be throughout the style. There is a very unusual timing to the
performance with an almost awkward looking body posturing (not a
bad sign, in fact generally an indication that the set has not been
"sanitized" by contemporary standards). At least intermediate
level. |

Kun
Lun
White Crane Saber
Double
VCD ,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
set swims like a dragon, showing elemental change constantly. To
our mind one of the better saber sets though it may disappoint some.
Very little emphasis on twirling. Far more on stabbing and cutting.
Also there is a distinct attention paid to body supported movements,
one hallmark of correct saber work. Extreme torso movement and body
engagement. Another often missing element of good skill. An unhurried
performance. |

Spinning
Fist
About
1 Hour,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
If
VCD #1060 is "firm" then this is a softer fist that lives
up to its name by some, though not excessive, spinning actions and
a few kicks distributed through what is many a palms set where the
two hands are coordinated through extensive back and waist motion.
Much traveling, few sped up sections and even few closed fists.
At times a loose, Wu Dang like quality with, to our minds, a stronger
structure than many representatives of that styles. |

Kun
Lun
Bandit Fist
About
1 Hour,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
A
reasonably short and very beautiful fist - at least to our eyes.
Tornado kicks and some other sophisticated leg work accent this
very traditional form that looks like it comes out of a book with
woodblock illustrations. Soft movements but also explosive ones.
This may be hard to understand but the "Bandit" flavor
is evidenced in the walking away and turning moves. We consider
this a good representation of what Kun Lun entails. |
VCD#1056
Hua
Fist Wu Ji
5 Hands
About
1 Hour,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Just
a wonderful set! You really should see this one. Ku Lun is in the
west and the wind looks to blow the sands through and the style
does too. Soft motions, body becoming fire-like, some of the weirdest
footwork ever, some explosive jings. This style has hardly become
the urbanized lukewarm stuff we often see. Organic, changeable and
skillful. |
VCD#1057
Kun Lun 8 Methods Palm
Triple
VCD,VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Rather
obviously this is one of the "master sets" of the Kun
Lun style. In other words you will be doing this baby the rest of
your life. As we near the heart of the argument things change. Gone
are most of the kicks. We have a soft, Tai Chi like performance
punctuated with explosions of jings of many types and qualities.
The feet move almost constantly. The body is soft and pliable. Some
times the single hand strikes, most often both support one another.
A deep set. This
a triple VCD. |
VCD#1058
Kun Lun 5 Elements Fist
Double
VCD, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
is, at times, one of the fastest sets in the style. However there
are some decidedly Chi Retention oriented movements such as packing
breaths. We have, because of this, an unusual combination of quick
light motion and storing activities. A very interest, more disparate
set that has some of the unexpectedness of a Lost Track form.
Strikes toward the direction are associated with different elements.
Many direction changes. This
is a double VCD

VCD#1059
Kun Lun 4 Shapes Fist
Double
VCD, See
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
A
longish and very complex form that almost skirts the border to be
"internal." Movements are not only soft but come from
the core of the torso, as they should in all styles. The Four Shapes
include the Four Directions and also the animals Green Dragon, White
Tiger, Snake etc. Some applications are shown in this Double
VCD. |
VCD#1060
Kun Lun Major Martial Fist
About 1 Hour,VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Kui
Wu Quan. This is a powerful form with strong strikes mixed with
soft and flowing movements. There are basically two approaches to
forms: urban and country. These Kun Lun forms definitely are "village
style" with organic movements and fluid, relaxed actions. The
Taoist origins of this style influence the flowing and very unpredictable
series of movements. The structure of this form shows many unusual
turns and twists along with a loose and comfortable power. |
VCD#1061
Kun Lun 72 Punches
Double
VCD,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Pretty
much the work horse set of the style. Like Tan Tui a number of linear
sections with much greater accent on the power and strong moves.
Notable among the specialties is the great use of Leaning and Shaking
jing. The footwork is flexible and light. The strikes are strong
but not rigid. Throughout the style there has been a definite attempt
to separate then join soft and hard. Every style in CMA claims such
but not many even make such a concerted effort. |

Customer Comments:
PS The Kun lun series is excellent. Even though the teacher only shows a few applications with a partner, he is describing the principles and applications as he teaches the movements, so someone with a good background in martial arts who can read Chinese could effectively learn the system from these VCD's. I learned this system with only four of these forms, and I can say that they haven't watered it down at all.
