First,
be advised that all of these VCD's are IN
CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much
because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography
very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't
read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given
that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these
special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made
for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for
free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most
DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow!

CHA
FIST MUSLIM Style
Page 2
Cha
(Zha) Boxing is the quintessential Northern Kung Fu style. Cha is
a branch of Jiao Men or Muslim style Kung Fu. Famous for centuries
due to its relative purity not to mention great beauty, Cha is one
of China's best beloved Long Fists. In fact Cha was taken as the
basis of Contemporary Wushu mandatory routines. It is pure, graceful
and sophisticated. This is the Li branch from Ren Cheng, in other
words Ren Cheng Li Shi Cha Quan. It is slightly shorted limbed in
general than the more contemporary kind. The Tan Tui equivalent
is simple and definitely different. Shih Fu Wang and his students
are exact but not trying for big performances. There is, unfortunately,
no applications shown. On the other hand we believe this to be an
accurate representation of a less well known branch of this big
martial style.
Instructor:
Wang Feng, 4th generation representative of ren Cheng (Li) style
Cha Chuan.

Wang
Feng is not a polished performer. His movements, in the initial
out of doors demonstration of the form, are often a little tentative.
Our feeling is that he is more concerned with precision and accurate
representation of his material than anything else. This is a straight
forward Cha set with relatively uncluttered movements but characeristics
such as circle walking and long low cat stances.

Fist Flying Demon Saber
About

This is a very straight forward set with well
balanced technique and absolutely no "fluff." It is dignified,
slow and methodical. The movements are clearly represented and carefully
executed. More of a beginner's form it breaks down into reasonable
simple lines and essential skills. Typical of Cha's straight forward
honesty.

Fist 10 Road Pounding Fist
About

As
many students know the 10 road Tan Tui is a basic and essential
form at the core of the Jiao Men, Muslim system. There is a standard
form which if fairly similar in its many incarnations. This is a
similar series starting with a simple step punch then evolving nine
other lines based essentially on triple punches. The original Tan
Tui had over 20 lines. This might be considered and alternate version
from a different branch of Cha.

Fist Penetrate the Forest Sword
About
an hour,

Actually
"Swallow Penetrates the Forest Sword." A decidedly different
use of the sword, almost more like a short stick. Much wrist work
and some changes of angle that would put stress on the wrist if
not performed with competence. Again, not a display or performance
set as much as a solid compendium of traditional actions.

Linked Fist
About
an hour,

This
is a form that lives up to its name by concentrating on combinations
rather than moves. In other words the task here is to show linkage
of kicks and punches, little bursts of combination attack and defenses.
There is a bit more accent on hardness with thrusting and strong
kicking actions foremost in the composition. Compared to, say, the
Flying Dragon set this is more a bread and butter series of strong,
solid drills.

Dragon Fist
About

This
is a beautiful, wide ranging form with many changes. A true Long
Fist set it utilizes round house swings, high standing cranes and
light footwork. More of the same, in that it is Cha but also more
performance without being anything than classically Long Fist.

Fist Road #6 Raiding
Fist
About

This
fist is considered to have some of the practical fighting theory
of Cha. The emphasis here is on "folding" with the occasional
elbow technique to underscore the point. In every series of sets
- in a complete style - there will be some sets which are Short,
some Long, some "linked" and some Jia or structrure sets
where the issue of postures makes the set look a little stilted.
This appears to also have some of the structure as a goal so there
are many forzen positions and held postures.

Yao
Lu Quan as in Rowing a Boat Boxing. This form focuses a bit more
on continuous and changing hand actions and shows some unusual positions
almost snake style in structure. The form slows things down a bit
and there is a floating quality to some sections. Hand fans (keylock
turns) are done sometimes with accompanying jumps and spins. Cloud
hand like actions are coordinated with light footwork.

Fist Road #10 Ambush
Fist
About
an hour,
VCD pricing, Chinese only
The
Ambush Fist is not exclusively associated with the Cha style. it
is also found in Mei Hua Fist and Sun Bin style. This version is
a sophisticated one that conforms to the key theme of the set. The
Ambush specializes in holding at least two possibilities alive at
one time. This is the "ambush" a hidden hand, an unusual
turn, etc. In some ways this gives some of the feeling of Lost Track
but, ultimately, this is a long, nicely constructred Cha form.

Fist
About

Without
a doubt, this is the most famous and representative form of the
Cha system. This is the form different members of the Cha family
use to compare. It is often the first one of the "core"
system taught after Tan Tui. This is indeed the same form with different
interpretations of some moves but, in the main, the structure and
composition of the form is all there.

Along
with #4, the first Cha set is often a standard of performance. It
is neither the most complex nor the easiest. Rather it is a set
of the fundamental characteristics of a given style. The pace is
unhurried but the range of techniques is extensive. This set teaches
structure but also movements and kicks.

Fist Protect Body Saber
About
an hour,

This
saber form is more detailed and complex than the earlier one but
the elements are similar with certain hold positions and wrist changes
not usually associated with the saber. These weapons sets give the
impression less of performance and more of a cataloging of the major
actions of the weapon.
