Style XY 6 Harmony Spear
About
an hour,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
The
tradition of a "Six harmony" Spear is deep set in Chinese martial
arts for, at least, its associations with Yue Fei who is said to
have invented the art. All these 6 Harmony spears have nothing to
do with Six Harmonny Boxing, rather a later style. But they are
generally the more advanced spear of the style. This version, also
called "Running Spear" is totally consistent with Xing
Yi principles. All majors moves are there with changing steps such
as Zha Bu, jin Bu, Tui Bu etc. It is a long set with about eight
"roads" all centered around the three key moves: Open, Close and
Thrust. The total skills of the spear demonstrated
cover: lan,
na, zha, pi, ben, dian, chan, jiao, bo, tiao, & suo. |

Style XY Mid Level Competition Form
A
Double VCD,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Just
as it says, a middle level form created by Shih Fu Gao himself.
Some very light moves with wave actions and soft stepping. The actions
of this form combine elemental and animal boxing. A
Double VCD. |

Style XY High Level Competition Form
A
Double VCD,

A
top level form created by Shih Fu Gao himself. The actions of this
more challenging form are once again a mix of animal shapes and
elemental boxing. Gao's top student, Xu
Wen Hui, pretty much does the entire VCD here. The form
is contemporary but has surrendered very little of the traditional
basis of Xing Yi (after all, you don't want to mess up straight
forward styles like Xing Yi and BaJi). We feel that Xu, though obviously
a good performer, has some maturing in the arts. But the form is
strong and complex with a few BaGua like twists.

Two
classic Xing Yi routines performed by Shih Fu Gao and taught by
his student: Xu Wen Hui. The first form is a combination based on
the Five Elements guarding center line. The second, based on the
actions of the rooster, is more complex. Basic to the Che Style
Xing Yi curriculum.

Three
duet sets in the Xing Yi manner. Shih Fu Gao and Xu show the break
downs first and then demonstrate each of the matched exercises.
Some nice hand passing with much emphasis on changing to accommodate
the blocks. Tight, practical motions. Not a lot of energy in the
demonstration but clear instruction. The three forms represented
are famous to XY Wu Hua Pao (5 Flowers), 5 Elements Boxing and An
Shen Pao.

Style XY PairedWeapons
A
Double VCD,
VCD pricing, Chinese Only
At first blush we were somewhat unimpressed with the first of these
combined weapons forms. However, on consideration and due to technical
reasons, we would say that the paired stick set represented here
is by far one of the most faithful to correct staff work that we
have seen. All three weapons: 6 harmony Staff, and Spear and Ba
Gua Saber are paired in that the same weapon is held by each partner.
All the weapons, especially the long ones, show many correct sequences
and would take a life time to master. Not the simple choreographed
sets of most styles. Subtle and accurate useage which we are not
entirely convinced is transmittable on a VCD but the effort was
there at least. The most impressive part of the series. A
Double VCD.
