First, be advised that all of these VCD's are IN CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow!

Wu Dang Coiling Dragon style

Here is a style that combines "Internal" arts such as BaGua with "external" such as Shaolin. Coiling Dragon emphasizes flexibility and elongated muscles. The movements combine the powerful and the loose with an unusual harmony and balance. Not a lot of sets but each one significant.

Demonstrator: Sun Xiang is a direct disciple in the Sun family of their Coiling Dragon inheritance. He is the official coach of the China Police University and his moves show a non-nonsense attitude. He is quite limber and in excellent condition for his age.

VCD#851 Coiling Dragon Fundamentals
A Double VCD, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

Well, this presents a bit of a challenge for martial practitioners. Here is Sun Xiang demonstrating the basics of his Green Dragon style. His body, though obviously old, is as fluid as if it were oiled. High kicks, broom kicks, stretches, heel kicks that just about touch his lips, CARTWHEELS, splits. Of course he is elderly, helping himself up off the ground, but his range of motions, fluidity and - most of all - vitality will show you something of what traditional Kung Fu is all about. His spirit is bright and he's a pleasure to watch. Detailed instructions on important ideas. A Double VCD

VCD#852 Coiling Dragon 12 Road Tan Tui
A Double VCD, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

A very respectable Spring Leg. Short kicks and wrapping fists. One of the better versions we have seen. Sun Xiang's moves give the true feeling fo the form: simple, direct and consistent. You can definitely do worse if you are looking for a Tan Tui. A Double VCD.

VCD#853 Coiling Dragon Jin Gang Boxing
A Double VCD, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

Hard to describe! Almost Tai Tzu, almost a Southern Fist. Obviously a very old fist combining slow movements, dynamic tension, held postures, powerful moves, and limber postures. An interesting and pretty intense set. Well performed with much strength and self control. A Double VCD

VCD#854 Coiling Dragon Ba GuaPalms
A Double VCD, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

A very different version of BaGua. Dragon Claws are the hand formations. Each circle ends with a kick before walking resumes. Steps are slow, sunken and almost ponderous. The movements within the palm changes show Sun's characteristic fluidity which is in sharp contrast to his lock legged, rear out, and almost labored walking. Definitely another view of the subject. A Double VCD

VCD#855 Coiling Dragon 8 Snake Palms
About an hour, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

Actually Coiling Snake Eight Palms. We very much like this type of VCD. It shows short groups of movements done in a marching form that are not simply basics and not yet forms. Rather they act as essential building blocks for more advanced forms and actions. These have the essence of Snake which, by the time Sun is done, is a perfect bridge to his Ba Gua Palms and, at the same time, a perfect derivation from his Ba Gua Palms.

VCD#856 Coiling Dragon Silver Dragon Saber
About an hour, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

A good, medium to longish set. All the basics of the sword are represented with the main distinguishing points being a tendency for tighter actions closer to the body and a unusual number of draw cuts. A good set following the general outline of the style.

VCD#857 Coiling Dragon Dragon Staff
A Double VCD, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

A nice set with emphasis on twirls. The only unfortunate part is that the staff is so thin it is barely visible during the demonstration sections of the VCD. Some one handed but mostly double handed twirls. Basically an intermediate level to advanced Shaolin style staff. Once again Sun's expertise gives it flair and consistency with the Coiling Dragon style. A Double VCD

VCD#858 Coiling Dragon Fire Dragon Spear
About an hour, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

Some watch the sabre, some the straight sword. But for us we watch the spear to see the weapons work of a teacher. Frankly not that many are top notch. This is a nice long set with many changes. The structure of the set even adds footwork and angles not generally found with spear. Instructor Sun also shows the set with the practiced grace and general aplomp of all his movements.

VCD#859 Coiling Dragon Green Dragon Sword
About an hour, See Main VCD page for prices, CHINESE ONLY

Probably the center piece weapon of the style. A complicated, changeable and interesting straight sword. Sun's performance is professional and controlled. This set shows the variability of the sword. In addition, the whole thing is performed with that bane of the student, a long tassel.
