First,
be advised that all of these VCD's are IN
CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much
because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography
very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't
read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given
that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these
special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made
for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quick time (for
free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most
DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow! |
The
Martial Arts of Wan Lai Sheng
In
1928 the Republic government of China established the famous Central
Guo Shu Institute in NanJing. The Institute was headed by five chosen
master. Wan was one of these five along with Gu Ru Zhang. He had
also be a qualifying finalist, along with Gu Ru Zhang and Guo Cheng Yao
in the highly competitive tournament of that year. Wan was an expert
in Northern Shaolin, Six Harmony and ZiRan Men. In fact he was Du
Xin Wu's students (eventually becoming the inheritor of the ZiRan "Natural" school) and studied Shaolin Liuhe Boxing from Zhao Xin Zhou. Many of these VCDs have rare actual footage of
the elder Wan practicing. Still spry in his seventies these are
valuable and interesting records of one of those who "stayed
the path."

LaiSheng Heaven/Earth Penetrating Sword
A
Double VCD, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
VCD contains footage of Wan LaiSheng himself performed portions
of the sword set. Also known as the 6 Harmony Double Sword. Double
sword develops out of single sword. Though both hands hold the weapon
the movements should not be totally symmetrical. In proper performance
movements change a lot, often alternating fast and slow, light and
heavy, fierce and calm. Though the moves are relatively simple the
demand for coordination is high. The major movements should be independent,
like a tiger fighting a leopard or a horse rearing. This sword set
is strictly martial and not blended with dance movements. Good quality
for the weapon. A
Double VCD. |
VCD#821 Wan
LaiSheng Chin Nah
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
VCD starts with some footage of Wan himself practicing Chin Nah
with a student. Two person Chin Nah is used to refine self defense
skills. It uses locks and twists to force the partner to hyper extend
beyond the capacity of normal human joint range. This causes pain
and control. The techniques of China Nah include: Cut, Dot, Move,
Hold, Seal, Shut, Exploit, Button. This is a "Chin Nah form"
that is a two person stylized rendition of attacks and counters.
In the case of Chin Nah duet sets tend to show more useful information.
A good way to practice. |

VCD starts with actual footage of Wan himself practicing the saber.
This is also known as Six Harmony Saber. It is one of the favorite
weapons of Chinese Martial arts, praised highly by former generations
of martial practitioners. The saber's special technique requires
speed to be blended with strength, bravery and energy. Techniques
include: Split, Chop, Prick, Hang, Hack, Wrap (Chan Tou) and Bind
(Guanaco). NOTE: This VCD includes saber applications,
a rarity these days! |

Wan
LaiSheng 8 Step Hook
About
an hour
, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
VCD has footage of Wan LaiSheng playing this with a student, not
the best light. This is one of the many partner practices from Six
Harmony style. It has light stepping, quick actions, maneuvering,
turning hands and strikes It utilizes strategy to outwit strength.
What it encounters it captures, never breaking away. It seems to
retreat be advances. It follows every change like a leaf in the
wind. This is an unusual partner set, done so fast it almost looks
like moving Sticky Hands. Very lively and, for a teacher, many possibilities.

LaiSheng Partner Practices
About
an hour
, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Contains
footage of Wan LaiSheng playing this form. We don't know who invented
this Duet Set. It is representative of the Six Harmony Branch of
Kung Fu. Wan LaiSheng often practiced this with students and some
of this is captured in this VCD. His important points include stable
moves, body arts, mixing substantial and insubstantial. A very classical
form with some solid moves and some more artificial actions.

Wan
LaiSheng Black Tiger Boxing
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Footage
of Wan LaiSheng playing this is included. This is a fierce set of
the Six Harmony system. It is short, with only 36 movements. But
it can improve one's agility. It puts particular emphasis on body,
leg and foot works. Wan LaiSheng's emphasis was on soft waist, lively
legs and footwork as agile as a dance. Northern animal sets are
not that common. This Black Tiger doesn't have a lot of claw actions
but captures the spirit of the animal. The demonstrator is tired
when done. A middle length form. |

Nice
footage of Wan LaiSheng playing this set. Six Harmony practice includes
emphasis on Chi, Spirit and essential energy. The harmonies include
spirit, chi and essence. The "outside" include hand, body and foot.
Thus the six harmonies. Another three points are alignment of the
nose, fist and foot in the practice of boxing. Moves are steady,
powerful and ruthless. When advancing like the wind. When standing
like a mountain. Agility resembles a cat evading a dog, or a hawk
turning in the air. APPLICATIONS are
shown with breakdowns. |

Four
VCDs

ZiRan
Boxing emphasizes change. It reacts spontaneously mixing real and
false motions. Some of its key points are: body like a bow hand
goes like an arrow; eyes like meteors, legs like drills, hands hooks
like knives, sticking motions adhere like glue, entering occurs
like a sword whipping from a sheath, the opponent's hands have no
where to go. FOUR VCDS with many fighting techniques of Zi Ran's
style. Strategy shown along with some good exercises. The teacher
here knows what he is doing. Four
VCDs. Applications. |

Footage
of Wan LaiSheng playing this fist is included along with a short
section of him playing multiple attacks. Constantly changing, using
the real and the false alternately, left masking as right, right
falsely seeming to be left, you use strength so I use spirit, you
come straight so I cross, you cross so I circle. This is ZiRan Men.
This form is distinctively soft and relaxed. Zi Ran internal massage
is also shown along with some applications.

Lin
Jing Song is a disciple of Wan LaiSheng an 6th generation follower
and a chief Wushu coach in Tokyo, Japan. Retention of energy is
one of the classic and most refined aspects of Chinese martial arts.
Wan's disciple Lin has been practicing this for over 40 years. He
is also a calligrapher. These practices can increase one's Kung
Fu skills significantly. NOTE: These are rare "groin strengthening"
exercises based on Chinese medicine. Though there is no nudity massage
methods are pretty descriptive. Not advisable without some knowledge
of principles. |

LaiSheng ZiRan Conditioning
A
Double VCD, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Teacher
Lin followed Wan from childhood. The greatest gift he obtained was
a rational and skillful approach to martial arts. Here he demonstrates
the essentials of Wan's method. This introduction is so well organized
that the student will be pleasantly surprised. This VCD emphasizes
body conditioning even more than the BASICS one. Lifting rocks,
banging your shins, twisting sticks through your legs: have fun!

Liu
He Shaolin Boxing explained. This is a form but with complete basic
breakdowns on each movement. Demonstrated by Liang Chao Qun, the General
Coach of Wan LaiSheng Association in France. Liang is very quick
indeed and shows more vitality and direction than most of the VCDs
we handle. Most of the applications are short and sweet and pretty
realistic. Demonstration and explanation both of high quality. |
VCD#847
Wan
LaiSheng ZiRan Usage
About
an hour
, VCD pricing, Chinese/French
This
VCD starts with the ZiRan (Natural School) version of a form which
more resembles a series of basics and spontaneous movements like
someone "shadow boxing."This is, after all, the nature
of the Natural School. Applications are pulled from the movements
and shown. Much looks like kick boxing but we assure you it is not.
Some good WuShu applications taught in Chinese and decent French.
Our favorite blurb, "...sometimes it's a faux, and sometimes
it's real..." |
VCD#848
Wan
LaiSheng Shaolin Green Dragon
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/French

Long Arm set taught by a skilled young man in Chinese and a decent
French. European students background this clear and energetic instruction
from the Wan Lai Sheng curriculum. Demonstrated by Liang Chao Qun,
the General Coach of Wan LaiSheng Association in France. "Move
as if ... a badger running, cat passing, dog escaping and the kite
spiraling." |
VCD#849
Wan
LaiSheng Shaolin Linked Fist
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/French
Footage
of Wan LaiSheng himself playing the form begins this VCD. Another
nice Long Arm set taught by a skilled teacher in Chinese and decent
French. European students background this example of Wan Lai Sheng's
teachings. Demonstrated by Liang Chao Qun, the General Coach of Wan
LaiSheng Association in France. A simpler set than the one above
but nicely constructed, traditional with some Eagle claw actions
and Liu He flavor. |
VCD#850
Wan
LaiSheng Shaolin Liu He Staff
About
an hour
, VCD pricing, Chinese/French
Though
there is a form demonstrated here this is a APPLICATIONS tape about
the Chi Mei Gun (Eyebrow length staff). Solid applications especially
for the short weapons. The teacher, Liang Chao Qun, is fast and accurate
and has a lot of passion for the subject. And his French is considerably
better than ours. C'est vrai! |
