First, be advised that all of these VCD's are IN CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow!

BaGua Cheng Style with Sun Zhi Jun

Born in Cheng village, the area where Cheng TingHua was born and famous for BaGua practitioners, Sun ZhiJun is the real thing. In his seventies now he is mobile, fluid and limber. His mastery of not only hands but weapons forms is quite something. He has often been called one of BaGua's top fighters and his definitive movements back up this estimation. He is considered by some to be one of the best of the Cheng stylists. His movements are generous, changeable. Sometimes in these VCDs he moves so fluidily it is difficult to track him on the circle. In the 801 Series, each VCD starts with a general introduction and then one about BaGua and Sun, subttitled in ENGLISH! The only negative is that some editor felt the need, in the entire series, to occasionally speed up the action of the practitioners slightly. This is not from one of our standard film makers.

Not only are the eight palm changes made and shown in slow motion but there is a section of basics showing stances and stepping patterns. Also there is a demonstration of the eight basic palm actions done as single striking movements.

This VCD set (4) is of Sun Shifu's student, Wang De Ming, demonstrated the basic hand and foot exercises of the Cheng branch of Bagua. This is a very good, progressive and complete introduction to the type of movement you would expect if you wanted to delve into the forms and style of Sun Zhi Jun. Not to be looked down upon, these are the kind of basics you actually need because they introduce not only the essential concepts but, from the first movement, partake of the FLAVOR of Sun's interpretation... This also includes the first and second form sets. This differs from the basics of the #1368 above because where that VCD shows eight basic movements and their transitions this VCD shows over twenty exercises in a class type setting then a broken down for students explantion of the basic form. Also, of course, this is Wang De Ming, not his teacher. Note: This is a 4 VCD set.

VCD#1369 Cheng BaGua Swimming Body 8 Linked Palms

Sun Zhi Jun and his student, Wang De Ming, show the Eight Big Mother changes of the Cheng system. This VCD is essentially a clean showing of the changes by Wang who has caught Sun’s style accurately. Then there is a section on the on the breakdown of the 24 Forms with many, many applications demonstrated by Sun himself: some of the purest Bagua applications we have see and for that if nothing else recommended. In addition there are numerous lecture notes given by Sun.

Includes three main practice methods: Mother Palms, Changing Palms and Linked Palms. Some tight photography on footwork and some nice, fluid basic exercises. Everything done lightly and with grace. These are not "simple" palms. Each of the three sections could take you a year. The first is relatively easy but even the Mother Palms are complex and beautifully intewoven.

A wild and longish set with the oversized BaGua broadsword. Many turns and sweeps always keeping the idea of circularity in mind. Sun has passed beyond where many people stop. His BaGua has become totally circular even when there are straight movements demonstrated. This set is open, lively and fairly complex but it also well worth seeing.

Without a doubt one of the best BaGua straight sword performances we've seen. Sun's version is complex yet clear, fluid without being flimsy. Important moves are shown in the beginning as excerpts form the form. Sections are shown front and back. His mastery of the weapon will impress.

A really beautiful, and somewhat complex set with these weapons. Sun is a little hard to trace exactly on the circle because he doesn't use one but, with fluidity and meaning as demonstable as his, who cares? Well worth the money if you want BaGua knives.
