Yu Family Double Maces
In this case the double maces might be better considered double rods. These long metal rods are demonstrated in a nice set with some actions, as they should be, perfectly synchronized and others shown with offset timing. This is one of the better double rods sets we have. The actions and poses follow the generally middle frame actions of the Yu style. This series shows the same sections twice once with English narration and subtitles.

Yu Style Five Senses Boxing
The Yu style is a subset of Ermei boxing. In this case it is one of the most representative sets of Yu Boxing. Demonstrator Zong XiangLin is not only an inheritor but a main coach of the Yu style within the Ermei branch. This set is interesting as not so much a Long Arm but as a Middle Fist set with numerous claws, cat, short movements and occasional wider actions. The actions contain not only short movements such as elbows but also dynamic tension actions and some complex hand motions. This series shows the same sections twice once with English narration and subtitles.

These are some of the only Luo style VCDs we have at present. It is a sub branch of the Ermei family and Zhang is a main representative of the style. This set is extremely easy to learn. It has the structure of a Southern Kung Fu hand set with restricted steps and much emphasis on the elbow and fingers. The moves are not rigid but there is a substantial quality. The foot pattern is simple and the actions quite clear. Eyeshots, back fists, elbows. The narration says this is a classic for mountainous regions where balance might be an issue. Shown by Zhang Hong Bin.

Luo Style Small Hand Boxing
Shown by Zhang Hong Bin.
This is the one of the only Luo style VCD we have at present. This set emphasizes small hand actions which could easily be interpreted as mixing Chin Na and striking. The basic foot pattern is a cross. The palms and hands are used in strong but not brittle techniques with much trapping and low horses. A relatively easy set to learn.

Er- Mei sets cover a wide range of WuShu types. Neither a Long Arm nor a Short Arm the sets not only incorporate both forms of movement but also range through sets characteristic of Northern and Southern Kung Fu. Anyone who's seen a few hundred Kung Fu movies know that, when you are attacked in a Chinese eatery, you respond with the nearest thing at hand, a bench. This set shows the slashing, blocking and thrust techniques traditionally associated with this instrument.

Ermei Kung Fu VCD#548 Emei Boxing 3 Part Stick vs. Spear et al.
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

Three Sectional Stick vs. Spear: A good performance, dangerous moves, decent skill levels. This is a good one but we suggest you practice with someone you trust. Many moves in two person sets, particularly with the more dangerous weapons to control like jointed ones, have a lot of "fluff" moves that look dangerous to the audience but aren't really skill indicators. Most of the dangerous moves in this set are exactly that and particularly require some skill on the part of the staff wielder. Also contains Hsu Men Ji-Xin Fist, a set with both Large and Small frame actions that captures the essence of the style in a very short time. Probably one of the best sets represented here for an introduction to Er Mei boxing. Much spine waving. Created by Taoist priest from Wan Nan Temple in Er Mei area.

Not a bad performance. The teacher is a little out of timing (shocking as it may seem most teachers don't spend their spare moments practicing things like steel whip and three sectional). But you can tell he was great and is still good. The set itself is very good for learning. Nicely sectioned. A few real challenging sections. Remember to wear your bicycle helmet and don't smile while practicing. Oh, how good is he? He catches all three sections in one grasp at the end.

Lots of good sets but by no means exhaustive. Many not on other disks. In addition, a Gung Li Chuan, an Eagle Claw, two person sabers, two more sabers sets, Road #2 . There are also demonstrations of iron body, Er Mei style Tai Chi, three sectional stick vs. spear, Em-Mei spear and other representative sets. NOTE: There is a wonderful and famous scenario in BeiJing Opera where a robber armed with a broadsword sneaks into a merchant's room at the inn. Besides being wonderfully acrobatic the scene is also hilarious as they search for one another in the "dark" while the audience watches. This sword set recaptures that as a WuShu event even to the effect of wearing the MASKS (yes, the BeiJing Opera masks) and even, if you've seen the movie "King of Masks" performing a quick-change of visage.

Ermei Kung Fu VCD#551 Emei Boxing 7 Star Fist
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

Zhao Men 7 Star Fist: More like a Long Arm Northern set with willow leaf and crane hand, long kicks, 5 phoenix combinations, palm strikes etc. Even performing this obviously Northern set there is more of a tendency for Er Mei to be Middle Frame like true Shaolin rather than Big Frame. As always it's a matter of perspective. The fast hand movements of the previous forms is retained but much more emphasis on wider, more open motion. This boxing is popular in Sz-Chuan area.

Besides being wonderfully acrobatic the scene is also hilarious as they search for one another in the "dark" while the audience watches. This sword set recaptures that as a WuShu event and at the same time is one of the best saber routines in our collection. Vigorous, agile and spirited Note: see the SURVEY disk in this series. This version without the masks but instructed.

Golden Forest Fire Dragon: A complicated mostly hands set with moves so fast and angular they resemble the actions of 7 Star Mantis. Mostly actions performed from a cat positions with many intricate catches, quick strikes, and body twists. Sophisticated groups of moves are sometimes repeated, sometimes not. Many elbow strikes. Lives up to its name in that the hand actions are lively and "fire-like."

Hua Sect 24 Dian Shen Kao Tzu A fast beginning set with many flashing leaf hands, elbow folds, knuckle strikes and tight footwork. Symmetrical to some degree. Somewhat like short range or medium range Tong Bei. A nice doable set with a distinct energy. Er Mei, like Shaolin and Wu Dang, is not so much as style as a compendium of styles. This from the Hua Sect and was first released during the Ching Dynasty by Shou-De.
