First,
be advised that all of these VCD's are IN

the instruction is clear and the quality of photography very good.
But we will not accept returns just because people didn't read...
IN CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these
are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these special
VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's
they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quicktime (for free)

Three
Star Cannon Fist
Three
Star Cannon Punch ( also known , as in this case, as Three Emperor
Canon Fist) is a venerable and respected style in China. Sometimes
taught as a branch of the Shaolin Family Pao Chui is a beautiful
and functional style resembling Cha Chuan (Muslim Fist) and other
authentic, traditional styles. Some of these VCDs show applications
as well as representative Pao Chui movements. Though very uncommon
in the West, Pao Chui is a style worth learning about and introducing
to oneself.
Tell me more about Cannon
Fist.
Zhang
Kai (b. 1928) is the vice-secretary general of the Beijing Wushu
Association, the president of the BeiJing Three Emperor Cannon Boxing
Research Institute and the Head Teacher of Jing Hua Wushu School.

Punch Flower Altar Palm
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
Particularly popular in Hebei, Hua Tan Palm is one of three palms originally associated with the Three Star (Emperors) Cannon Fist system. The foundation of this series was originally coposed of Da Tan, Zheng Tan and Hua Tan or Large Altar, Straight Altar and Flower Altar. The movements of this form are generally soft, open and fluid with little emphasis on power. This form was supposed to have been employed by Yang Ru Zhen and Yang Ban Hou to aid training in Taiji. No applications. Wu Shi Jun is a refined and professional performer and the eleventh generation of Chen inheritors. |

Punch 8 Immortals Birthday Sword
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
This
series of VCDs also has English language narration!
This is demonstrated by a 7th generation holder of the Three Emperor
Canon Fist: Pang Lian Fu: a gold medalist. The 8 Immortals is a
characteristic set of the Cannon Fist style. It's name was given
to it by a Qing Emperor at a birthday celebration. Many of the movements
have the typical strength and structure of Cannon Boxing, but there
are also some spins and back arches reminiscent of BaGua. At least
an intermediate set. |

Punch Roads #2 & #3
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
A
very unusual set but definitely in the Long Fist family. At this
point it is difficult to distinguish the practitioners age from
the way the set is performed. Some Long Fist movement which, as
with much Cannon Fist, resemble Tan Tui mixed with very tight folded
elbow movements and arm rolls almost mantis like in their shortness.
A good practitioner fighting his age but a complex and somewhat
intriguing series of movements. Set only with no applications. |

Punch Snapping Fist
About

A
representative set of this Shaolin -related style. One might have
wished for a better representative version of the form itself filmed
as it was in a parking lot. Actually teacher Zhang Kai is much better
in the studio doing the breakdowns. No applications just a traditional
form with, as other Cannon Fist sets, a mixture of Long Fist and
a casual, almost walking style of footwork.

Punch Roads #1 & #4
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
This
is a two line set representative of the Cannon Fist style. This VCD
also introduces the basic elements of the style like Tiger Claw,
Hook hand, stances and such. The form is like a very sophisticated
version of Tan Tui with definite Long Fist movements interspersed
with short folding actions almost Southern Fist in nature. One issue
here is that the practitioner, though very good, is also pretty
old and it is sometimes difficult to exactly determine the representation
of the moves. |

Punch Survey
About

A
lot of sets from this old style. As is happening everywhere in the
Kung Fu world the only sad thing is that this teacher is probably
represented mostly by family members (one young girl is as cute
as a bug). There's definitely a feeling of too few hardy practitioners
to draw from as performers. Nonetheless we have, among others:Spring
Autumn Knife, Plum Blossom Saber, Pu Dao, Many fist sets, 3 Sectional
Stick vs Staff, Pu Dao vs. Staff, Big Sword (with whirling tassels)
and Big Spear (VERY big).

With
Yin Shu Zeng. A nice demonstration of the Cannon fist. This VCD
