Demonstrator/Teacher: Li Hong. Li's father is Li Wen Bin the last inner student of Shang Yun Xiang "Iron Leg Buddha". Shang is one of the best representatives of HeBei style Xing Yi which specializes in "Wave Power". Li Hong is currently the inheritor of the style which is derived from Li Cun Yi. We have another series with Li Hong but this is the more traditional series of sets, not the contemporary competition group.

Shang style Xing Yi (Form of the Mind) Boxing is one of the strongest and most representative styles of the HeBei branch of Xing Yi. The moves in this series represent traditional Xing Yi with an emphasis on two person sets and the important weapons.

By Li Wen-Bin. This is a DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR, namely the father of Li Hong. This VCD is almost a combination of a teaching disk and a documentary. A female voice overlays much of the instruction making it sound a little like a TV special. But the narrator is just giving instructional details to what is represented visually. At the teaching level this is a like a lesson with a good instructor and his student. Much emphasis on explosive techniques, tongue position, key actions, combinations and angles. Also some forms represented such as Ba Shih Quan, Linked Fist and Xing Yi Saber. A pretty good one VCD course.

Five Element Mutual Creation and Destruction Partner Work:"Wu-Xing Sheng-Ke Dui Pi-Chui". This is a matched set with emphasis on the mutual destruction and creation cycles embodied in XY five element boxing, stays pretty much to the basic variations of the five elements strikes. The "creating" and "overcoming" aspects of Xing Yi are, of course, general and theoretical. This traditional form of partner play is to grasp the general concepts in efficient and formal Xing Yi style. Less popular than the well known An Shen partner play.

Six Harmonies & Eight Postures, "Xing-Yi LiuHe Quan/Ba-Shi Chui": Two shorter and very famous XY fists both on one VCD. Ba Shi is one of Xing Yi's classic forms that especially emphasizes the clashing of the arms with the opponent. It is a well known form in this art. So essential was the Ba Shi, for any style, the eight essential posture that at one time "Ba Shi" was a synonym for martial arts itself. Excellent clear instruction. No applications.

Linked Staff "Xing-Yi Lian-Huan Qiang": A good staff set with XY flavor and higher level skills. Needless to say, the Xing Yi staff applies the movements of elemental theory. It does not use the staff as a Big Frame weapon rather concentrating on short thrust and clashing actions.

Partner Practice "An Shen Bao Dui-Lien ": XY's famous two person set; one of the most conservative and honest of all partner sets with very tight motions and logical responses. An Shen is one of those two person sets that promises at least some real skill, if practiced diligently. We think people like the set so much because it neatly combines leaking, sealing and relatively conservative and logical actions.

Xing Yi Linked Saber,"Xing-Yi Lian-Huan Dao": A very respectable saber set with XY features well instructed. Some double hand usage. No applications but excellent breakdown. Xing Yi is one of those style where the weapons and the empty hand actions are quite consistent. This can be good, or misleading. Since few people practice basics outside their sets it can give the practitioner a feeling that he or she had "mastered" the actions of the instrument because it feels so comfortable, so much like the form. Kung Fu is full of traps.

"Xing-Yi Dui-Jian": A nice two person straight sword set with unusual spinning moves. The usage in this set is relatively accurate with each player attacking for a while then defending. Many well -directed wrist strikes. This set was created by Li Wen Bin, Li Hong's father. It does not require striking of the swords against one another and therefore concentrates on the "leaking" aspects rather than the "sealing" of the swords.
