WU DANG SECRET TAOIST Style

President You XuanDe is headmaster of Wudong Internal Boxing School. His teachers were all foremost WuDong taoists: Tongshen Wang (a hermit at Wudang Temple); Zhu Chengde (Taosit headmaster);, Wang Weishen (headmaster of WuDang Xiongxi School); Lu Ming Dao ( who lived over 100 years old). In early 90s, You established San Feng Wushi College & becaming its first president. Among his titles: President of China Wudang Taoist Culture Research Institute, Chairman of Wudang Taoist Health Improvement Association, Chairman Compilers Board of Wudang Fighting Virtures magazine , Chairman Wudang International Taiji Quan Association, Senior Advisor of Dalian Wudang Quan Research Institute and others.

The Wu Dang Mountain is the home of Wu Dang's many styles of Kung Fu just as Shaolin is revered to be the home of Shaolin Style. A Taoist sanctuary and home of many temples martial arts from this area take on distinct qualities associated with Taoist: flexibility, looseness and an emphasis on Chi. This series of VCDs show some of this style and certainly one of the most beautiful backgrounds, an old Taoist temple, of our series.

VCD#204 Taoist style Wu-Dang Tai Chi

This version of WuDang Tai Chi is more complex than the 18 posture form. Definite traces of Yang and Chen movements appear. The entire set is performed on a wonderful "BaGua' dais in the middle of woods, an inspired and inspiring setting. Recognizable movements of Tai Chi such as Press, Push and Single Whip are blended together in a fluid and soft routine.

This is the WuDang version of a short Tai Chi set. Since WuDang practitioners believe their Tai Chi comes directly from Chang SanFeng (a true historical personality) their Tai Chi need not resemble those performed by others. This one may be thought of as a combination of soft Shaolin (one of the classic origins of Tai Chi) and BaGua.

Tai Yi Xiao Yao Palm: First Tai Yi is a common Taoist expression of the Great Spirit. This VCD demonstrates Taoist martial arts with all the flavors common to WuDang. Among these is a noteworth absence of power and periods, by periods we mean definitive movements showing specific focus points. This set seems almost a combination of Tai Chi and BaGua, or something like Liu He BaFa. It is fluid and yielding with applications for many moves simply instructed. Thus it lives up to its name meaning Xiao Yao of "Free and Unfettered Palms".A Double VCD.

This is a nice example of the WuDang style staff. Movements are fluid and graceful with many changes. Medium length and relatively small area used. This VCD has the advantage of clear instruction with applications of the staff moves included as though fighting against another staff. Performed on a beautiful old temple terrace. A Double VCD.

The Cinnabar of the title refers, of course, to the cinnabar field (Tan Tien) which, in Taoist alchemy, is the source of Chi renewal. This is a respectable medium sized sword set with WuDang flavor. Just as Shaolin is famous for the staff, so WuDang is known for its many great sword sets which can be "played by moonlight". A Double VCD.

The Secret Taoist Tai Yu Fly Whisk. So. Certainly, in our view, the most "contemporary" of the forms as far as general steps. Almost a straight sword form with whisk subsituted. However some really nice moves including a sequence of a two-finger (yes, two-finger) cartwheel into splits. The staff (wandering), the sword (mystical ceremonies) and the whisk (exorcism) have long been associated with Taoist ritual. You XuanDe himself teaches on all VCDs.
