PRAYING
MANTIS (7 Star Style)
Demonstrator/Teacher:
Huo Rui Ting a fourth generation inheritor of 7 Star Mantis.A good
practitioner and very representative.
Seven
Star Praying Mantis (Chi-Xing Tang-Lang) is the most popular and
widely recognized of the Mantis Family. Seven Star is often the
first taste a student may have of this fast and deceptive fist.
Created by Wang Lang over 300 years ago it is considered the last
official style to have originated in the Shaolin Temple. Mantis
players harken back to original Kung Fu in that they often study
and freely take from other branches of their art. This makes Mantis
one of the broadest and most successful styles of Kung Fu.

7 Star Mantis Cha Chui Boxing About 1 Hour, VCD pricing,
Chinese Only
This
is a relatively short but very well known form. It is outlined in
Wang Hon Fun's series of books and correlates to our traditional
Chinese book #TC403.
The movements here are fast and angular with the Mantis flavor and
applications are shown (partially) for numerous actions in the form.
This is a rooftop production and while possibly not the best Mantis
we've seen is an accurate version. One little thing, the practitioner
- to our eyes - might have had some Southern training as well as
Northern. On the other hand, as anyone knowledgeable will tell you,
Mantis, like Tai Chi, is a single family.
VCD#478 Seven Star Mantis Lan Jie About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Here is the "Blocking Intercepting" Boxing of the Seven Star branch. The movements here are of a higher level sophistication with dropping punches, tiger stance kneeling, outward hooking hands, many double hand actions, some very fast smothering and spitting techniques and interesting combinations. Lan Jie is a well known foundation set for the work and is practiced throughout the Mantis world.
