HUA FLOWER Fist Boxing

HUA (Flower) fist has long been considered one of the "Five Long Fist" styles alone with Hung (Shaolin), Cha (Muslim), Wah and Pao. Long Fist it is with fluid movement and some beautiful changes. According to some it was originated by Gan FengChi during the YunZheng period, Qing Dynasty. It is a Long Fist style considerably "softer" in performance than Shaolin. There are evident applications geared toward fighting. Sort of Wing Chun if invented by Northerners.

This VCD shows the 24 Posture Fist, a basic set of the style. Even though this is a basic fist, like a couple lines of Tan Tui it is quite nice. In fact it would be a wonderful introductory set or children's set for any Long Fist style. We see so many mediocre beginning sets its nice to see one with a good range of movements well strung together.
Teacher/Demonstrator Jing Ben-Yu: Committee member of BeiJing Wushu Association, National Wushu Judge, Chairman of BeiJing Hua Quan Research Association. Master Jing is no spring chicken but his performances are active and alert with good intent and well-practiced movements.

This VCD shows the 36 Posture Fist,quite a step up from the previous 24. Complex changes, much emphasis on trapping Wing Block. This shows some of Hua's range: one minute it looks like Shaolin, another Praying Mantis, another distinctly like Xing Yi. But actually the general flavor is Long Fist in that it emphasizes clarity and length. A not often seen style with a character of its own.

This VCD shows ZHAN QUAN - Stretching Fist- a true long fist set with complex moves and many changes including short and long hand, cloud walking, thrusting fingers, and Press: well demonstrated by an accomplished female instructor and broken down in full. This is a medium set with Long Fist everywhere flavoring the actions. The movements, in general are open, and clean. Teacher Dong is a strong martial artists with obvious experience and good legs. She moves with authority and grace.

Demonstrator/Teacher: Dong Wen-Yu. She is on the Committee of BeiJing Wushu Association, Vice-Chairman of BeiJing Hua Chuan Research Association and an Officer of National Wushu Management Center.

VCD#190 Flower Fist Tiger Running Fist

This is Hu-Ben Tiger Running Tiger. A medium sized set it lives up to its name. Much twisting and some Sitting Stances (particularly applicable to female martial artists in good condition). Many spins and more elaborate and aggressive fist work than Stretching Fist. Tiger stances punctuate this well-constructed and challenging form.

Demonstrator/Teacher Guo Shuang-Feng: Vice-Chairman of BeiJing Hua Chuan Research Association, National Wushu Judge, Coach of PRC National Wushu Team. Teacher Guo is an accomplished performer. Some of her movements may strike one as a blend of contemporary WuShu and traditional but they are clear and strong and authoritative. Her instruction is quite straight forward and precise.
