because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography
very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't
read... IN
CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these are really tremendous
deals for the money. Each of these special VCD's can be played on
a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's they are also Mac compatible
by downloading Quicktime (for free) and any similar VCD player
program. Also playable on most DVD players. For less than $10.00?

Chi
Kung (QiGong)
The
phrase Chi Kung (which is actually a new designation, not classical)
covers many aspects indeed. With over 3000 styles extant in China
there are so many faces to Chi Kung which most people are unaware
of that speaking intelligently of the subject can be difficult.
Some forms take self massage, some forms standing practice, some
are carnival type demonstrations of "amazing skills" some
develop truly amazing skills. The most basic designation is martial,
health and transcendence (spiritual). These are the three types handed
down as general divisions for centuries. Again, the fact that Chi
Kung literally means "breath work" should not be over
emphasized since it is a modern term. Nei Kung (internal work) is
more accurate and encompasses more nuance.

VCD#1419 Shaolin BaFa Ying Gong (hard Qigong)
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Despite the incredible flexibility stunt on the cover of this VCD it is essentially about Iron Palm conditioning. Many exercises are shown and details including rubbing liniment all over the hands before practice. This is a neat "throw back" VCD that looks like old Iron Palm training books. Iron fist is also shown and many other exercises. One of these is the classic four hanging bags East, West, North South. Another is the heavy bag for kicking. Some of the palm patterns are traditional and common, others, such as the "dancing palm" are not well known. Everything is authentic and traditional though.

VCD#1336 Jin
Gang 9 Kung Palm
Double VCD, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Here
are Chi Kung exercises in the martial tradition, not the watered
down generalized moves associated with what for instance some are now calling "medical"
Chi Kung. the elder teacher instructs his young students. The exercises
are not difficult to learn but they have levels of difficulty in
performance. These exercises are to induce the Chi to enter the
entire body and therefore to encourage longevity and rejuvenation. Double

VCD#1265 Golden
Bell Exercises
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
"Jin
Zhong Zhao" is the Chinese name of Golden Bell Qigong. This series
comes from the Song Dynasty from Tong Zhou. In the Ming period it
was linked by Tao Shi Deng Kun Lun to WuDang (Tai He) Kung fu. This
is one stage of Iron Body training - also known as the Golden Bell
as in this case - which is a combination of breathing, dynamic tension
and striking exercises. The strikes here may seem a little light
because in this series, with this painted background all the sound
tracks are re-dubbed with a professional narrator and the normal
sound tracks are removed. Do the striking doesn't "sound."
At the end of this series there is self striking down with wooden
instruments and something like the cover is replicated. Nor recommended
for those prone to headaches.

Phoenix Iron Shirt Work
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Tie
Bu Shan. Iron Shirt training is an important part of many Kung Fu
systems. Developed slowly over the centuries it can be broken down
into a general schema: introduce the movement, introduce the breathing,
show the Jing or energy, focus the mind and then strike the body
or have the body struck. It is important to know that these different
levels were not always taught at once. So this version of the Iron
Shirt excludes the striking practice. It can still be considered
Iron Shirt training though more for health preservation than fighting. This
method is said to have been passed from Tong Zhou (in the Song Dynasty)
and then refined by Tao Shi (priest) Deng Kun Len during the Ming
Dynasty.

VCD#1131 Wu
Dang Iron Shirt Training
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
There
are many ways to perform Iron Shirt training. This is one of the
better ones based on stretching, massaging and yogic actions. It
is evident that many of the single exercises are designed to throw
the body against poles and other apparatuses. But most of what is
demonstrated here is tightening and stretching of the body: generally
a better approach than striking equipment but requiring skill. It
has two sections: Pure Yang and Golden Pill Lying forms.

an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Emei Jin-Jia Gong Kang-Sheng Cao

a combination of Chi Kung and practical self defense. Movements
are repeated that might be described as basic actions either of
the self defense aspect of Emei or, and also, the health maintenance
of the art. Every action is shown in application and most of the applications are reasonable and classical
and pretty good. The second section is on seated Chi Kung strictly
for the preservation of health. Many seated and lying Chi Kung's
are actually very useful especially to show to those not involved

VCD#306 Choy Lai Fut 6 Breaths Ball
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
WuYun
6 Breaths BaGua Ball. A very unusual and interesting Chi Kung. To
our eyes this one harkens back to the kind of Kung Fu we rarely
see any more, village and "beneficent society" rather than urban
or military. A big ball is placed in the middle of the room and
the set is done "to" the ball using the spherical shape as a model
for movements. Certainly more Hei Kung than fighting but with CLF's
lucid and strong flavor nonetheless. This is actually an important
VCD for those who can see.

Kung I Chin Ching
About
an hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
For
many the I Chin Chin (The Tendon Changing Classic) is not only the
beginning of the relationship between Chi Kung and Kung Fu but also
the Shaolin Style itself. Said to be a gift from Boddhidharma this
is the exercise taught to the monks at the temple. We can't be sure
which is the "real" one if any but this is a very good
exposition of the form handed down for generations. |
