Sword About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
We
are happy to see that the interpretations of Yang sword are not
so circumscribed as many believe. Here is not only a nice version,
quite accurate, from that vivacious instructor Luo Jin Hua, but
a collector's item film strip of his teacher, Sha Guo Zheng, performing
the set. To our eyes this is more appetizing than the version
presented by Yang Zhen Dou (Oh, yes, maybe sacrilege to criticize
the direct lineage, but many teachers that came out of that post-Cultural-Revolution
group seem to have been instructed to resemble the text books
first, in an attempt to standardize the curriculum for mass instruction.)
Our preference leads towards the organic and here is a nice example
of same.

The
famous Yang style T'ai Chi sword with Yang Zhen-Dou and his grandson,
Yang Jun, demonstrating. For many people this is the standard of
the art. Yang Zhen Dou himself demonstrates and makes many comments
on just the proper way to do things. Much detail in the proper play
of the sword. Nicely progressive comments . Each posture is named
and demonstrated with specifics on direction, holding and correct
sword path. A must for Yang style lovers.
DVD version also available.

Yang
style Tai Chi Push
Hands About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
These
Push Hand Techniques are passed on from Yang Jianhou, the third son
of the founder (Yang Luchan), to Zhang Ce - founder of the Taiji Five-elements
TongBei style - then to his disciple Zhang Yiqian and finally to ShihFu
Zhang Jizong. Yang Push Hands utilizes the 8 essential energies of
T'ai Chi: shed (Ward Off) , parry, squeeze, press, elbow, rely (Lean)
, poke and shoulder. True Push Hands develops "Listening"
as one of the most important of T'ai Chi skills. In this VCD practice
methods are detailed along with usage of Single pushing, Double pushing,
steps fixed and free. It is rich in contents and precious for teaching!
VCD#261
Imperial style
Tai Chi Ball About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
Performed by Li Zhen a fourth generation
inheritor of Yang Tai Chi.
Here
is the T'ai Chi Ball. Many believe this to be one of the essential
exercises of the Yang T'ai Chi. T'ai Chi Ball is a series of simple
moves that match the elegance and spherical actions of Yang T'ai Chi.
Even more than the weapons sets, T'ai Chi ball encourages circularity
and smoothness in the practitioner. For most Yang stylists, and really
for many students of martial arts, there are some good exercises here. FU LEI (Imperial) T'ai Chi reminds us of the position Yang LuChan
held as a special teacher to the Royal Guards. This branch of Yang
offers another look into the diverse picture of the Yang T'ai Chi
family of sets and skills.

Fist
About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
Performed by Li Zhen a fourth generation
inheritor of Yang Tai Chi.
Here is another addition to the slowly increasing knowledge we have
of Yang T'ai Chi. As many practitioners have guessed there is more
to the system than a single form. Zhi Chui, Intelligent or Wise
Punch, is demonstrated here with graceful and continuous movement.
A small set of about four minutes it rearranges many movements of
Yang style into a more direct whole. This VCD is accompanied with
training tips on the Qu Chi standing, basic Chi Kung for Yang style
and even the fundamentals for stances.Fu Lei (Imperial) T'ai Chi
reminds us of the position Yang Lu Chan held as a special teacher
to the Royal Guards. This branch of Yang offers another look into
the diverse picture of the Yang T'ai Chi family of sets and skills.
VCD#263
Yang
style Tai Chi
13 Saber About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
Demonstrator:
Li ChengXiang.
The
Yang style Saber is graceful and soft. Almost the antithesis of
many broadsword sets, it moves with almost no apparent power of
strain. Teacher Li performs a placid and very respectable version
only this time retaining the true wrapping actions of the saber
in distinction to some practitioners who abbreviate such moves.
A good representation of Yang Saber.

Imperial Tai Chi Big
Frame
Four VCDs , see Main VCD for prices, Chinese Only
Performed by
Li Zhen a fourth generation inheritor of Yang Tai Chi.
This is the Big Frame version of Fu Lei Yang Tai Chi. It is
considered the basic version with high emphasis on health and circulation
of energy. The movements are loose and long, the body erect. Fu Lei
(Imperial) T'ai Chi reminds us of the position Yang LuChan held as
a special teacher to the Royal Guards. This branch of Yang offers
another look into the diverse picture of the Yang T'ai Chi family
of sets and skills. A
set of Four VCDs.
VCD#287
Imperial
Tai Chi
Old Frame
Four VCDs, VCD pricing, Chinese Only
Performed
by Li Zhen a fourth generation inheritor of Yang Tai Chi.
The
set here claims to be the Old Frame version of Yang Tai Chi. There
are many similarities to the Yang Chen-Fu version with the first
immediate difference being the Refrain (Grasp Sparrow's Tail) is
done on both sides. This VCD starts with a lecture/demo of the different
sets contained within this branch of Yang Tai Chi. There are a number
of theories as to the extent and scope of Yang Tai Chi. Some say
there was much developed in Yong Nian, Yang's home village. Others
that Yang Lu-Chang really started his major formulation of the style
after reaching BeiJing and becoming a teacher of the Royal Guards.
This style represents that part of the story. This branch of Yang
offers another look into the diverse picture of the Yang T'ai Chi
family of sets and skills.
A set of Four VCDs.
