Baji Quan (Eight Ultimates Boxing)
BaJi Quan is said to date back hundreds
of years and has traditionally only been used by the Emperor's
imperial guards. This powerful form of Kung Fu projects energy
forward like a canon. This approach to BaJi comes directly from
Li Shu Wen the most famous modern master of the style. The same
man whose students served as bodyguards to Mao Tse- Tung (Li
Chen-Wu), Chiang Kai-Shek (Liu Yun Chiao) and the last Emperor,
Pu-Yee (Ho Tien-Kuo).Su Yu Chang is in direct lineage through
another famous BaJi teacher, Liu Yun Chiao.
BaJi
is one of our favorite styles. And no wonder. Powerful, fluid
and incredibly simple while being truly beautiful at the same
time, Eight Ultimates (BaJi) impresses your attention from the
first moment you see it (learn more from our info-box

#VD00014 BaJi Kung Fu Chin Kan Form
VHS, about one hour, US $ 49.95
The
foundation of Chin Kan (in Mandarin Jing Gang, warrior of Buddha)
is "octagonal energ" that is energy in the 8 directions
(hence the name BaJi: 8 extremes). The secret, according to this
tape, of obtaining octagonal energy for the Chin Kan BaSu lies
in stretching of the muscles and tendons. Chin Kan Fist uses the
Five Elements energy to exert the Diamond or Explosion energy
projection. In other words, this form deals with BaJi's special
requirements of Fa Chin or Energy Issuance. This form is passed
down from Li Shu Wen "The Spear God" and a very famous
master of BaJi. While Kai Men opened the body directionally this
form is said to move the energy throughout the body at the same
time.

great of BaJi in the 20th century. Also known as Chiang Shen (Spear

them in life and death matches beyond his sixties. Li took the
movements from his spear practice, revered throughout China, and
combined them with BaJi to create this important form even more
serious and yet more secretive than normal BaJi. He taught this
style to his major student, Grandmaster Liu Yun-Chiao, who is

| Where
BaJi is strong and vigorous PiGua is soft and vicious. Grandmaster
Li Shu Wen (known throughout China as Shen Chiang or "God
of the Spear") considered these a perfect combination. Pi
Gua is indeed on of the great style. It incoporates and builds
on the ancient priniple of "tong bei" that is to say,
through-the-back and perfectly unifies one of the major sources
of Kung Fu power: the shoulder girdle. Pi Gua moves are great
for health because they are expansive yet coordinated. The arms
actions are extremely loose but never unconscious. Pi Gua is one
of those styles which helps any other style it touches. That's
probably why so many styles have married to it. Combined with
Tai Hsing it is known as Monkey Fist. A beautiful and fluid style
PiGua basics so perfectly complements other styles such as BaJi
and even Tai Chi that often they are taught just as supplements. (Learn

#VD00010 Praying Mantis Xiao HuYuen
(Small Tiger Swallow Form)
VHS,About an hour, US $ 49.95
The Small Tiger Swallow form
is very famous in Mantis circles. It is important in the Seven
Star and the Mei Hua (Plum Flower) branches in particular. The
history of the form states that Wang Lang, Mantis' creator,
saw a painting of a saint riding a tiger. The idea of a form
with the strength of a tiger and the agility of a swallow inspired
the creation of HsiaoHuYuen. This form is particularly important
in teaching Mantis style to children. It trains agility and
strength while promoting the skill of quick changes.
Introduction to Praying Mantis style
12 Fundamental techniques of the Mantis clearly shown
12 Basic technical movements
Tiger Swallow Form shown
Tiger Swallow combat applications

#VD0009 Secret Door Praying Mantis
VHS,About an hour, US $ 49.95
Secret Door is the most secretive
of all mantis styles. In over 35 years of martial training we've
seen it very few times. Now here is a tape on it by Su Yu-Chang
who learned from the only teacher to ever bring it to Taiwan:
Chang Te-Kuei.One of its unusual characteristics is that many
movements were designed to defend against other mantis styles.
Brief history of PiMen (Secret Door) Mantis
12 Fundamental techniques of the Mantis clearly shown
TangLang Shou Chuan (Praying Mantis Hand Boxing)
TangLang applications
First line of PoAn partner setFive
Organ and Fa Chin Mantis Chi KungWe
think these tapes, though a little expensive (but not really
if you knew how they were produced) are top quality for Mantis
information. These are not casual tapes. They have energy and
very good instruction. And Master Su is a top flight practitioner
of Praying Mantis. You can get a lot of Mantis' special flavor
from these tapes which are mostly unavailable.
OUR
COMMENT: This tape has a old film of Master Su himself as a
youth performing the set Lan Che Chuan. Many years ago, when
I was first studying my teacher had films of the Marysville
Bomb Day festivals from the 60's. The Chinese community here
in California would come out and perform Kung Fu even when no
one knew what it was. The first mantis I ever saw was on one
of these tapes. And it was incredibly fast - almost inhuman.
This film at the end of Master Su's tape is worth the price
of the whole tape. Truly the flavor and the feel of the mantis
style, almost lost now in many places. - Ted

#VD00011 Six Harmony Praying Mantis
VHS,Two tapes over 1 1/2 hours, Plum Price: US $ 71.95
click picture
There
are two types of Praying Mantis styles, the Hard and the Soft.
There are more styles within the Hard Mantis and they are better
known throughout the world. Within the Soft Mantis there is basically
one style: Six Harmony. Many of the Hard styles have some Soft
techniques and can be played softly but Six Harmony is based on
Softness as a strategy and curriuculum. It contains only seven
forms. This form, Jin-Li Cang-Hua (Chin-Li Tsang-Hua) - variously
translated as Flowers in the Mirror (a Buddhist term) or Flowers
in the Sleeve- is an intermediate form. Su Yu-Chang was taught
it by Grandmaster Liu Yun-Chiao who was taught by Ting Tzu-Chen.
Further influence was gained by Liu Yun-Chiao's friend and fellow
student of Mantis, Zhang
Xiang-San (Chang Hsiang-San).
:
NOTE: Each tape is in Chinese and Japanese
but is accompanied by an English language booklet.
CONTENTS
Introduction
to the LiuHe TangLang style
Basic
techniques
The
Flower in the Sleeve form
Applications
shown
Duet
practices
This
video was filmed during the 2000 Nagoya, Japan seminar. Each technique,
energy, movement, step, application and duet practice is clearly
explained. Mister Su's tapes are really quite thorough. They give
the movements with meaning. For the teacher they are perfect showing
not only what to demonstrate but how to get students to understand
the meaning of the motions. His applications are clever and relatively
straight forward but keep a flavor about them by sticking to the
principles shown. Su himself has spent decades learning and practicing
the style and has a wide knowledge of it. As he once said in a
seminar we attended, "The Mantis is special. When you hit
someone they will say, 'Thank you. If you hadn't hit me I could
never have seen such interesting moves'." There's some truth
in that.

#VD0006 Chen T'ai Chi with Applications
VHS,About an hour, US $ 49.95
This is a very special version
of the Chen T'ai Chi. Developed by Liu Yun Chiao, Su Yu Chang
and Adam Hsu jointly: this set is a simplified variation taught
at the college level in Taiwan. Unknown to many, Grandmaster
Liu Yun-Chiao of WuTan fame personally knew Chen FaKe and
was the first to show him BaJi style. Years later, in Taiwan,
Grandmaster Liu met Du Yi-Sai a noted master of traditional
Chen style. Grandmaster Liu felt that his student should have
the benefits of Chen style so he encouraged a number of them,
including Su Yu Chang to learn under Master Du.
The
idea of this tape is to emphasize the practical, fighting
aspects of the Chen style. It contains:
A brief history of Chen T'ai Chi
Explanation of the Yin Yang symbol
Short Form of Chen Tai Chi
13 Fundamentals of Chen with methods of projecting energy
Basic Push Hands technique
Applications of the Chen Short Form
A rare film of Du Yi-Sai performing Canon Fist in the 1970's
