These
DVDs show the art of Wing Chun as demonstrated by students of the
famous Pan Nam of Fo Shan, in GuanDong province. Mr. Pan's Wing Chun
is considered a national treasure in China. Though quite different
from the more universally known Yip Man version made popular by
Bruce Lee, the Fo Shan branch is a respected member of the Wing Chun
family.
Other demonstrators include Benny Meng the proprietor and head trainer
of the Wing Chun Museum teaching the Yip Man styles of the art.
NOTE:
The Pan Nam DVD's are SUBTITLED in English and have Cantonese tracks
as well as Mandarin (PuTongHua) audio. Read about Pan Nam style Wing Chun.
NEW! DVDs #24193 and 24194 Shaolin Wooden Dummy, Parts 1 & 2
By Benny Meng, English language
$29.95 each(10% discount if both purchased together; discount shown in cart)
As with teacher Benny Meng's previous DVD's there is a lot of information here, not to mention a high skill level on the wooden man itself, showing well-controlled energy issuance (Fa Jing).
He starts wih a kind of tour of the world of Wing Chun in reference to the dummy, and its many faces, different names, and important concepts such as angling. A few movements are particularly new, but the strong point of this DVD is the simplicity and unquestionable skills demonstrated here.
There is a very strong tendency in Wing Chun to clearly and precisely explain its technique and strategy. Teacher Meng's movements are signs of this clarity and, as Wing Chun people are happy to say, "What you learn today, you can use today."
DVD#11479 Hard style Wing Chun BANG QIAO Firm Bridge $19.50, 50+
Minutes Cantonese/ English Subtitles
Lin Xin, direct disciple of Deng Jin Tao
Clear instruction is the presentation style of this “harder” version of the Bridge Seeking form.
This form is translated as “Upper Arm,” which I take to mean a deeper penetration with relatively fixed upper arm movements and stable forearms. Some specific principles are given such as Chicken Wing Elbow placement, Butterfly Hands, Suppressing, ZiWu punching and such.
This is the “firm” school of Wing Chun, which also has family ties to Hung Gar. The section on hand usage, though done without a partner, is good and presents different movements along with different titles. The only thing lacking here is additional partner work. The skills emphasized here belong to the general idea of "folding," where the hand and the forearm play off "information" from the opponent's movments. In this style "listening" is controlling.
DVD#24181 Chi Kung (Qigong) Kidney Breathing $39.50, English language
Eddie Chong has studied under some top people in the Southern branch of Kung Fu. Besides the White Eyebrow transmission of Li Yang Jian he was in the last group of disciples of Pan Nam, a famous Wing Chun figure. This particular form was handed to him by Pan Nam and is considered a Shaolin heritage in the Wing Chun family tradition. Definitely a Southern Fighting Chi Kung, it pays particular attention to sending energy to the hands. It has some unusual hand formation based on the meridians and is a sophisticated combination of dynamic tension, concentrated postures and fa jing (energy issuance). A well constructed DVD.

DVD#24182 Pak Sau Drills & Advanced Footwork $39.50, English language
In this DVD Eddie Chong, an accomplished Southern Boxing stylist, shows what he considers to be almost a "missing element" of much student training: the Pak Sao exercise. Taking the pattern of Pak Sao and some counters he shows a wide variety of training methods which can increase speed and certainly challenge one's timing. In additon and necessarily supplementary to; Chong Sifu shows advanced and flexible foot patterns from Wing Chun which blend with the Pak Sao to form a complete course of exercises and practical applications. Pak Sao is meant to be the bridge to double Chi Sao but it has much to offer on its own. In our opinion one of the most fluid and varied presentations we've seen of the Pak Sao with minimal emphasis on mechanical and rigid patterns.

DVD#18122 Fine Points of Chi Sao $29.50, 60+
Minutes
The well known senior student and friend of Bruce Lee gives an informal, conversational lecture on fine points of Sticky Hands. His comments are good for those who have enough experience to realize the short cuts and refinements he is offering in his unhurried, calm approach. He points are mostly ancillary. This means you should know one and two arm chi sao, lop sao drills, etc. The questions put top him refer to fine point such as "When to Attack?", and "How Much Force should be Used?" .
DVD#11477 Thirteen Post Hands $19.50, 50+
Minutes Cantonese/ English Subtitles
This is the Hung version of Wing Chun as a Guang Zhou style. This is Hei Ban’s (Liang Zan's) Wing Chun and here Lam demonstrates not a form but the major strikes, stances and movements of his "Hard" style of Wing Chun. Most of the applications are the same but the actions definitely have a “Hung” flavor and favor power a bit more and a wider and more circular interpretation. Worth the look for enthusiasts. Instructor Lin Xin is a student of Deng Jin Tao. He has studied Hung Gar, Wing Chun, Xia Men (Tibetan Kung Fu) and Yang Tai Chi.
DVD#11478 Siu Nian Tou $19.50, 50+
Minutes Cantonese/ English Subtitles
This is the first form of Wing Chun, Xiao Lian Tou. If you are unaware of it, there is a definite connection between Hung Gar and Wing Chun and this version, shown by, is a perfect example of the hybrid which sometimes occurs. Most of the movements would be familiar to anyone doing the style but there is a greater emphasis on power issuance, and somewhat rounder arm motion as in the Hung style. Lam himself is very specific. The only problem is that, though he goes into a lot of details about the technique, he doesn’t shown anything with a partner. Instructor Lin Xin is a student of Deng Jin Tao. He has studied Hung Gar, Wing Chun, Xia Men (Tibetan Kung Fu) and Yang Tai Chi.
#24346 Zhang TzeDouble DVD $27.50
This is the fourth form in the so-called Ying Wing Chun (Hard style). The emphasis of this form is elbows and fingers. An advanced form this one develops skills with both hands simultaneously and Long combined with Short actions. Lin Xin gives a demonstration and instruction in a Ying style Wing Chun form that is essentially Bil Ji only with equal emphasis on the elbows as the fingers. He gives a good deal of instruction to accompany the form shown by he and his student. There might be some trouble with accessing the subtitles in English. Not the common branch of Wing Chun. Lin Xin was also a Hung student of master Deng Jin Tao.
DVD#11302 Siu Nian Tou $19.50, 50+
Minutes Cantonese/ English Subtitles
No
one who really knows Wing Chun looks down on the first form. It is the
basis of the style. Here is a version, slightly different than others
with a different tempo and interpretation. The form is broken down
and applied, section by section with usage and occasional drills
attached to the proper parts. A good, dynamic approach to this series
which, all in all, has much useful instruction. Taught by Lo Bo Jun, head of the Foshan JingWu studio. He studied under Liu Rui Wen (Lum Tsai Mun), a student of Yao Cai.

Biao Ji & Basics $19.50, 50+
Minutes Cantonese/ English Subtitles
Called
"Tender Fingers" or "Symbol Fingers" not "Dart Fingers" by this
instructor, here is a compendium of exercises basic to Sticky Hands.
Whichever branch of this style you are from there are many ideas
for instruction and practice. This is a joyful instructor who likes
what he teachers. Strictly Cantonese, the instruction is fast and
furious with ideas and examples of training methods from variations
on Chi Sao to applications from the example form. This is not a
disk to learn the set. This is more of what we say Kung Fu needs,
dissection and analysis of the classical components. Taught by Lo Bo Jun, head of the Fo shan Jing Wu studio.

less cooperative applications.

The Wooden Dummy integrates all the attack, stepping and leg methods
of Sil Lum Tao (Xiao Lien Tou), Seeking the Bridge (Chum Kiu) and
Dart Fingers (Bil Ji or Biao Chih). The Wooden Dummy embodies the
actual method and fighting strategy of the Wing Chun system. It
incorporates ideas from Free Hand Defenses, Chi Sao (Sticky Hands)
, Counter Fighting and Free Fighting. The Dummy forces the practitioner

is very rarely seen incorporating many FINGER STRIKES against the
dummy as well as some hooking and controlling actions not commonly

Minutes, English only
The
director of the Ving Tsun Museum in Akron Ohio demonstrates the
second hand set of the Yip Man system. Meng gives a good and clear
breakdown and demonstration, along with applications, of this important
part of the famous fighting style. Chum Kiu is important because
it begins mobility training in earnest. This DVD combines two VHS
tapes (vol's 3 & 4).
Vol 3. CHUM KIU (Combat Bridge) This disk builds on previous information
and brings you to the intermediate level of training. Chum Kiu introduces
footwork and movement through body unity, teaching you how to generate
power in all directions... It examines the motions and techniques,
forms and body mechanics, attributes, concepts and tactics, and
applications of basic Wing Chun with an added dimension of movement.
The information is presented in several formats throughout the video
- solo, partner demonstration, and application - giving you a chance
to see the simplicity, directness and efficiency of this brand of
Wing Chun.
Vol
4 Chum Kiu Training Exercises and Applications. This section builds
on the Chum Kiu and shows training at that level. These exercises
and drills derive from Chum Kiu reinforcing body mechanics and introduce
side stepping actions with dynamic balance. This is the beginning
of Wing Chun's training to put the body on "Auto Pilot."
Yip Man used to say that if a student knew the essence of Sil Lim
Tao and Chum Kiu and lost a fight he would throw himself off the
roof of the Restaurant Workers Union. He never had to make good
on that promise.

for training you to recover from bad positions. This tape also covers

DVD#12048 Shaolin Chi Sum Wing Chun
Demonstrated by Andreas Hoffman $29.95, English
only
The
director of the Ving Tsun Museum in Akron Ohio hosts this never-before
filmed material. It features a demonstration of the Saam Baai
Faat "Three Bows to Buddha". Curator Benny discusses
the historical significance of this almost unknown branch of the
Wing Chun family and its relation to other branches.
"This tape contains the set called Saam Baai Fut - meaning
Three Bows to Buddha . This is the heart of Chi Sim Weng Chun.
In this set, the student learns to multiply energy through the
waist as in bowing. Every technique in Weng Chun has a special
bow to add power and structure. When the skill of Saam Baai Fut
is mastered, a practitioner can rob the energy of an experienced
opponent, or even prevent it from arising at all. This set also
introduces the concept of thinking vertically as well as horizontally
and laterally through bowing to Heaven (high), Human (middle)
and Earth (low). Its focus is to expand the ability of Wing Chun
Kuen practitioners to cover all of space and time. This set is
called Saam Baai Fut because the students bows once for the Dharma
(teaching), once for fellow students and once for the Buddha natures
within.
This
Saam Baai Fut DVD is made in recognition of, and in honor to,
Grandmaster Wai Yan for his dedication to the development of Chi
Sim Wing Chun Kung Fu" ...

Wong Fei Hong (Wing
Chun) $19.50, 45+
Minutes Mandarin/English Subtitles
This
is a very clear presentation of the Siu Nim Dao first Wing Chun
form. As a part of the Wong Fei Hung Southern Fist the movements
are surprisingly true to the Yip Man standard form. No applications
but pretty good camera work and extensive close ups mostly from
a frontal angle.
