247 Pages, Softbound. Photographs.
A new beautifully laid out book by famous practitioner Liu,
published in 2003. This text is said to contain "lost"
information on the art. It also presents many sections on
the more difficult and important aspects of BaGua such as
basics. A nice section on walking is followed logically with
palms exercises and nice illustrations of applications. Next
is a Jia Shou or Xing Yi like structure form (one of Liu's
other skills). Finally there is a 9 Palace Fist walking the
magic square pattern. Photographs are well done with "ghost"
of previous position next to new movement. Good work. |

Simple line drawings demonstrate the many items in this text.
Titled "Dong Hai Chuan's BaGua" this purports to show
the self defense aspects of the art. Most of the work is concerned
with a number of forms, many short and unusual such as the BaGua
Elbow Form. There is also a section, longer, entitled the BaGua
64 Palms which categorizes the use of the palm as a striking
tool. Another chapter shows BaGua Dragon Shaped Palm. The final
section of the book displays self defense applications. |

This is unusual, we have another book by the same author on
this page (see 315). This book covers a great subject for martial
studies namely Mass Attacks. Very clear illustrations show strategies
for defending oneself against multiple attacks up to four. A
subject that could use more texts. |

YUANYANG XIANGJINBIAO
by Fan Ke-Ping
Simplified Chinese Characters
178 Pages, Softbound. Illustrated.
Wrapped in leggings, his hair tied in a bun, this ancient warrior
goes through a bunch of wonderfully funky postures: warming
up on a drum seat, being stretched on racks, performing hand
stands, balances, kicks and odd hand positions. Then there's
a great demonstration of golden daggers not only in the air
but throwing and stabbing against a wooden dummy. We can't testify
how authentic all this is but it's definitely a fun series. |

most thorough published on the art of Xing Yi. The author is
